How To Get Rid Of Ants
Ants invade our homes looking for food, water and shelter. They have been found in almost every room in the house from the attics to the basements. These insects usually come from the outside of our homes and here are some helpful hints on how to get rid of ants and prevent them from entering your homes.
Maintain a well groomed landscape
Keep all plants bushes and trees from touching the walls, windows, and roofs of the house, this an easy way for ants to look for entry ways and to bridge any preventative measures you or your pest control company have taken to control them.
Cut your lawn and plant beds regularly and pick up the grass and plant clippings. This will help you identify ant nests before they enter your home.
Clear the clutter
Ants and other pests will find just about anywhere to nest, especially around buildings. Keeping a clean and well-organized yard/patio and perimeter of your home.
Clean and organize all storage areas like attics, basements, garages and tool sheds regularly
Cleanliness is next to godliness
Kitchens: Clean regularly and don’t leave things out in the open. Try to keep all food products in sealed containers
Bathrooms: Clean regularly, ants are attracted to soaps, toothpaste and other personal care products
Pet food should always be kept in a sealed container and food should not be left out during the day. Train pets to eat once or twice a day
Seal them out
Another important aspect on how to get rid of ants and prevent them from entering your home is to seal all windows, doors and any other crack or crevice you may have. Weather strips, calking and silicone seals will help you keep them out
Inspect and seal all water, gas or swear pipes especially in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms
Prevention is the key to success
Regular inspections and preventative treatments especially on the outside and perimeters of the home will keep these pesky invaders away from your home.
Keep in mind that ants are always looking for new sources of food, water and shelter, the harder we make it for them to enter our homes, the more likely they will look somewhere else.
